Overview

The LX-183 is a click torque wrench for automotive and mechanical fasteners. It gives an audible and tactile signal when you reach the selected clockwise torque, helping you tighten to the equipment maker's specification.

Key Advantages

Controlled Tightening

Set Torque. Feel The Click.

Set the required clockwise torque from 10 to 150 ft-lb. Stop pulling as soon as you hear or feel the click; the wrench does not stop force automatically.

  • 10-150 ft-lbtorque range
  • 1/2 inchsquare drive
  • Clockwisetorque measurement

Readable Settings

Two Units. One Torque Setting.

Yellow scale markings show ft-lb and Nm. The micrometer scale adjusts in 1 ft-lb increments; each increment is approximately 1.36 Nm.

Protected Storage

A Case Between Jobs

Keep the wrench in its case in a clean, dry place. Return the setting to 10 ft-lb after use, and do not turn the handle below that minimum.

Wrench, Case And Calibration Certificate

The supplied case stores the wrench between jobs. The package includes the wrench and calibration certificate; choose the correctly sized socket separately.

Will it fit the job?

Choose by required torque, tightening direction and socket drive. A vehicle name alone does not establish compatibility.

Job or attachmentWorksWhat to check
Car, truck and trailer wheel fastenersYes, within the rated rangeClockwise tightening at 10-150 ft-lb (13.6-203.5 Nm); follow the vehicle maker's specification.
Motorcycle axle and chassis fastenersYes, when torque and drive fitCheck the service-manual torque and use the correct socket on the 1/2-inch square drive.
1/2-inch drive socketsYesMatch the socket opening to the fastener; sockets are not shown in the supplied kit.
3/8-inch or 1/4-inch drive socketsNo direct fitThe wrench drive is 1/2 inch; do not mistake socket opening size for square-drive size.
Fasteners below 10 ft-lbNoUse a torque tool whose rated range includes the required lower torque.
Fasteners above 150 ft-lbNoChoose a higher-range wrench for the required torque.
Left-hand threaded fastenersNo calibrated reverse tighteningRatchet reverses, but torque is measured only clockwise.
Stuck fasteners and breaker-bar workNoDo not use this precision tool to break loose stuck fasteners or add leverage devices.

Questions

Can I use it for my car or truck lug nuts?

Yes, if the specified clockwise tightening torque is between 10 and 150 ft-lb and you have the correct socket. Use your vehicle maker's torque value rather than a generic lug-nut setting.

Will it work on trailer or RV wheels?

Yes, when the wheel maker's required clockwise torque falls within 10-150 ft-lb. Match the socket to the fastener and follow the maker's tightening and recheck procedure.

Can I use it on a motorcycle rear axle nut?

Yes, when the service-manual torque is within 10-150 ft-lb and tightening is clockwise. Check the required socket size and available working space before choosing this 17-inch wrench.

Will my 3/8-inch drive sockets fit directly?

No. LX-183 has a 1/2-inch square drive, so a 3/8-inch drive socket does not attach directly.

Can it tighten bicycle parts or small bolts below 10 ft-lb?

No, not below its 10 ft-lb minimum. Choose a lower-range torque tool that includes the fastener's specified torque.

Can it measure torque on left-hand threaded fasteners?

No. The ratchet head reverses, but calibrated torque measurement is clockwise only.

Can I set it to 150 ft-lb?

Yes. The rated range is 10-150 ft-lb, and 150 ft-lb is the upper limit; use another wrench for specifications above that.

How does LX-183 compare with LX-184?

Both have a 1/2-inch drive and calibrated clockwise measurement. LX-183 covers 10-150 ft-lb with a 17-inch length; LX-184 covers 25-250 ft-lb with a 25-inch length. Choose the range and access needed for your fastener.
